My Teaching Practice

As a teaching artist, I like to create hands-on experiences for children that introduce both the elements of art and the principles of design. I have a degree in architecture and a love of design, so I use concepts such as shape, pattern, and space to help students understand design through art.

It is very important to me to balance structure with open-ended play and exploration. I believe play is an essential part of learning. It allows children to discover ideas through curiosity and experimentation. When I teach, I give clear prompts and guidance while also encouraging them to make decisions, take creative risks, express themselves, and develop their own ideas.

My perspective is that there is no right or wrong answer in art, and that each person can approach a project in their own way. I enjoy creating and teaching projects that emphasize process, material awareness, and the connection between art and design. And most importantly, I want to create an environment where everyone can have fun and develop a love of the arts at an early age.

Play is the highest expression of human development in childhood for it alone is the free expression of what is in a child’s soul.
