11” Squares / Folding Planes in Perspective

Location

Hallway Gallery

Details

Basswood, canvas, acrylic spray paint

Exploring geometrical concepts, this piece transforms a 2-dimensional plane into a spatial form through folding. I commissioned Tyler Young, a local craftsman, to create the display panels for the hallway gallery. Made from basswood—a material commonly used in architectural models—the panels feature a strip of canvas as a hinge, allowing for flexible arrangement and experimentation. Each piece begins as an 11-inch square, intersected and folded, mirroring the 11-inch spacing of the board and batten walls. The 18-foot gallery shelf in the narrow hallway enhances the dynamic perspective of the display.
